Dear ABGR Colleagues,
As our Fall season takes shape, I take this opportunity to report on recent news, successes and plans.
Since my last report, we have hosted the following events.
October 1, Issues Committee Meeting
We hosted a roundtable featuring White House Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Vishal Amin, Ameen Imam of the USPTO Enforcement Team, and Intellectual Property Attaché Peter Mehravari; thanks to Commercial Counsellor Nasir Abbasi for arranging.
October 7, Board Meeting
At our October board meeting we welcomed to our Board of Directors Todd Elledge, General Manager of the California Compound, who has agreed to serve as Treasurer.
October 13, Dinner Social
More than 250 members and guests were entertained with a jazz ensemble hosted by Ishbilia Compound.
Please look out for the following upcoming events:
- 40th Anniversary Dinner. We are working with the U.S. Embassy on plans for a 40th Anniversary dinner in late October or early November, a commemorative book and a program of commemorative events.
- Meet your Embassy. We are working with our friends at the Embassy to organize roundtable discussions with leaders of the various sections of the Embassy.
- Social Program. Stand by for evening social events, on the model of recent successful dinners hosted by the Arizona and Isbhilia Compounds.
We are grateful for the service of our capable and talented Manager Claire Bridge, who with her husband Richard will be returning to California in December, and Amanda Tafunai, who will also be leaving us that month; and for the timely arrival of Claire’s energetic successor Tammie Perdue, whom you will meet at upcoming events.
Despite attrition in the number of expatriates generally and American iqama holders specifically (down 8% in 2017), our own numbers continue to grow, with 73 corporate members and 497 individual members; thanks to all for the vote of confidence in what we offer as Riyadh’s premier American business, social and networking organization!
Thank you for your commitment to our organization, and for your contribution to our efforts to promote American business interests in the Kingdom.
Christopher H. Johnson
